What is a demon exactly? Where do they come from? Why do they cause so much trouble? Let us tackle each question as it's own problem.
A demon is a creature that is half and half. Their parents can come from the nether world or the next level. Sometimes it is from both places that the demonic parents are from. Some demons are born from a human mother with a netherworld spouse. Some the opposite is true the father is human and the mother is from elsewhere. Since the born demon is neither prime plane nor astral plane the creature has no real home. It is an outcast from all the planes. Most make their homes the Astral Plane but not all. The rest split their homes between the nether world and Prime plane.
Where do they come from? A demon is from the Astral Plane and the Prime material Plane. There are very few who choose to remain in the Prime material Plane. When they do they are usually hunted and chased off of the Prime Plane. Most if not all choose a home in the Astral Plane. The fact that they cannot be at home in the Astral Plane is not a problem. They make their homes where they will and force the issue when it becomes a problem. When the Elders find them they destroy them so most demonic homes are hard to find.
Why do they cause so much trouble? Simple since they have no responsibility for the Plane they inhabit they can destroy as they wish. They have incredible powers but they are not limitless. They have the ability to form a plan but not to carry it to completion. Their attention span is relatively short. That is to say they can concentrate on a spell and complete it but they must make the effort to do so. They tend to get distracted and go for the shortest method. Their life span is long around 8 centuries but not limitless. Demons are children who want it all and want it now. Waiting for something is for corpreal people not them.
Thus this is a demon. Why am I writing about them? Simple enough the movie Angels and Demons and my Elder's insistance. One man's angel is another man's demon and vice versa. My instructor has tapped me on the head quite a few times tonight to get this written. When one writes about a particular subject ensure you have the original material available. Mine is stored on the Astral Plane in my little tower. The library is just large enough to hold the current volumes. I am going to expand the library one of these days after class.

ok in my traditions belief system their are no angels and demons
they are nothing more than aspects of our subconscious mind
the demons being the traits and things from within us that hold us back or hinder our growth
and the angels being the things that help
historically speaking what we know as demons are for the most part gods and demi gods and in some cases hero's of the nations that fought against the coming of Christianity
lucifer was a god of light and creativity and other things of a similar nature ( the shining one )
satan was derived from the sumarian god shiatian
i could list all the names and where they come from but that would take too long
basically the way our minds work is balance
if their is light their has to be dark
if their is good then their must be bad
and if their are gods then to balance them their must be demons
many so called demons are nothing more than elemental energy it is also this elemental energy ( elemental's when the energy has a limited consciousness ) that we perceive as the fey or fairy kind or other such manifestations and also sometimes are mistaken for poltergeists
we are witch so when we see these (for lack of a better description) blobs of partially conscious energy aligned with one of the 4 elements our minds project the immage of the fey
where as Christians and Catholics and those that follow the jewish based faiths would perceive them as they have been taught
a healing or helpful elemental would then appear to them as an angel
and chaotic or harmful energy blobs would appear to them as demons simply because that is what they believe in

I ALSO BELIEVE THAT OUR "DEMONS" ARE IN OUR OWN MIND. ANGELS AND DEMONS ARE MORE CHRISTIANITY BASED. NOW, THERE ARE SPIRITS WHO COULD BE CALLED DEMONS BUT IT DEPENDS ON ONE'S BELIEF.
THE MOVIE ANGELS AND DEMONS IS BASED ON THE CONCEPT OF GOOD AND BAD AND HOW FAR EACH INDIVITUAL WILL GO TO ACIEVE HIS/HER GOAL. I GO UNDER THE THEORY THAT THE MOVIE IS ACCURAD TO THE BOOK.
MAYBE ALL THIS LEDS TO A NEW DISCUSSION.

1. Any entity that is missunderstood by humanity is labeled as a "Demon".
2. Any God that is already worshiped by the conquered inhabitans of any area are labeled "demons, and devils".
3. There is NOTHING in this universe that has any power over any of us unless we allow it.
4. We quite frequently forget this fact and submit to the will of those who may not understand what is in our best intrest.
5. Nothing in life or this material exsistance is straight black or white. Everything comes in it's own shade of gray. To be completely black or white is to be completely out of balance and one can not function is a state of extreem un-balance. (disbalance dis-ease)
