the three fold law may be crap to you but it makes a lot of sence to me. i strongly believe in that and it is MY belief and it dosent have to be YOUR belief too.

I don't think for a minute that Romana was criticising the "law" because it was your belief, rather the idea in general.

And I know you know this already.

So what's my point?

Well, in the first place, the threefold law is at odds with everything we see about us in creation. Nowhere in nature do you get back three times more than you put in. In fact, the only time I've seen that happen is in extremely artificial systems such as financial instruments and so on. Everywhere else in nature, energy is conserved, and usually, due to drains along the way, you get out less than you put in in terms of the effect you want.

It is presumably, unlikely, that a principle in magic would work in fundamental opposition to the rest of creation.

Next, and only because you've entered into a public debate on the "law", I would ask you to consider that for this fundamentally unnatural event to occur in your experience, but not in ours, that it is unlikely to be a "law" at all. If it is not a law, then why do you experience it and not us? I suspect the answer is that you believe in it, and so are using your own magic to make this experience reality for you.

Consider now, if you were (as we all do from time to time) to make a mistake. Whereas we would have to suffer the consequences to learn our lesson and correct our error, you would have to suffer the consequences three times over! And this would (in my view) be unnecessary suffering.

This is not the path of the wise.

dark_shadow, I hope you fundamentally disagree with me, and put me right because I have never seen the sense of the law except as an instrument of fear to keep the neophytes in line. I would love to find out why I might be wrong.

The threefold law only counts if you do bad stuff! (or thats is only in those time a wiccan threatens with it) I guess thats the wiccan Hell.

Honestly, I think it's like the Christian hell, just a way to manipulate people. Keeping order. It does serves it purpose to eliminate chaos and blight the earth with order and law.

Laws and order are not balance, but it is a comforting way to live. The little people don't need to be worried about survival, they put that on the big people. Order and Law leaves opportunities to Orders and government. For example the Illuminati. It leaves the opportunity for them to infect us with Swine flue. To Build our houses with radioactive dump. And it leaves the opportunity for a wiccan priestess to control her coven. Just like it gives the pope a opportunity to control the Christians.

Well, thats what I believe anyway But it is possible that it exist, just as possible as hell does.
