As with any science there is the inevitable mathematical formula which is used to define certain facts and principles. The science of magic also contains a defining formula which is as important in its workings as the physicist's E=MC[2]. It is an equation which, when calculated correctly, will insure the full and proper conclusion to any magical effort. M=ICV[d] is at the root of all magic.
M=Magic. In order to calculate for that answer you begin with the first element 'I' which is Imagination. Without the ability to form an idea in your mind of what can be achieved through your use of magic you cannot even begin to hope for success in your efforts. Imagination pulls the ideas of what you can do from the depths of your mind. Imagination is the mental spark that allows one to dream and strive to rise above the mundane existence of the material world.
'C' is the element calculated as Concentration. It takes a great deal of mental energy to focus so thoroughly upon the ideas you have and wish to bring into your world that the very forces of creation bend to your will. Concentration is a skill that must be worked on and trained in order to turn your mind into a sharp instrument of intense focus. The successful magician will never cease to exercise and hone their skill of concentration. It must become so strong as to convince your own mind that a desired outcome has in fact already occurred so you can look for its manifestation in the material world around you.
Visualization is another required element in the magical equation. Once a concept has been imagined it will require a strong concentration to see the actuality of your idea in your mind's eye so that it can be created. For a highly successful magic spell to work you must visualize your idea to the point of utter clarity. Having only a fuzzy picture of what you desire will at best only give you fuzzy results. Combine these three elements of the equation until there is no lingering doubt as to exactly what you are seeking to do. Then you are ready to add the empowering modifier in this magical equation.
Desire squared does not mean doubled, but multiplied by its own entirety. It is through the intense formulation of your desire for this idea you have devised that you will fuel its accomplishment. It is through a gigantic longing for and emotional need that the elements of your mental efforts will manipulate the forces that control the movements of the world's energies. Without a strong desire for your stated goal you cannot hope for full success. Desire is the 'wind in the sails' that carries the primary elements of this equation into reality.
Regardless of the path you are following, this formula for creating magic is a unifying principle. With its proper conception and performance there is nothing beyond the abilities of the well-trained magician. It is up to each practitioner to practice his art until the variables have been worked out of this equation so that the pure essence of these factors can be applied. As with any science, be it material or metaphysical, there is a learning curve that must be followed as you increase your knowledge and experience. The closer you come to perfecting the elements of this formula the greater will be your achievements in the Craft and in the very time you spend in this life.
