| Working the Psychic Muscles |
|
One of the fascinating things about our bodies is that the more you work and exercise its muscles, the stronger they become. A lesser-known, or at least acknowledged, part of the makeup of the human body is the inherent psychic tendencies of our minds. Coupling the few pounds of gray matter in your skull with the cognitive abilities our mind can perform with it creates not only analytical thought but an element of metaphysical extension as well. As with the need to work and practice with our physical bodies to reach maximum performance, we must also work the mind and brain to achieve our maximum potential with it as well. Not only magic workers, but the mainstream scientific researchers as well, have an understanding of the power of meditation. While the scientist only acknowledges these benefits on the body in lowered stress levels and improved thought, the practicing magician must realize that through the act of quiet meditation we forge stronger bonds between our minds, bodies and spirit. The more we practice this inner-looking technique, the greater the understanding and awareness of the subtle psychic energies we can access and manipulate. There are many systems and methods of achieving the meditative state available to use. There are no "right" ways as opposed to "wrong" ways so long as you can learn to clear and focus your mind with it. It is suggested that you experiment with several of them until you find the technique that best brings you into that state of self-awareness of the spiritual energy around you. It is through this energetic spirit state that you will be able to shut out the distractions of the material plane and be able to comprehend the intuitive nature of meditative learning. As with any exercise program, one should start out a little at a time and extend their sets as they grow accustomed to the process. Begin with just working on the breathing techniques that help stabilize the body's physical processes. Use the focus of maintaining a set rhythm as an exercise in clearing the mind of extraneous thoughts. This will help you learn to bend your mental abilities to focus on one thing only before you advance to clearing it of ALL thoughts. Supplement your meditation exercises whenever the opportunity presents itself. Upon awakening in the morning, rather than rush up out of bed, lay a few minutes just attuning yourself to the sounds and activities of the world around you. As well as preparing you for a hectic day ahead, this process of stilling your mind on awakening will give your subconscious mind a better chance of reminding you of the dreams you had the previous night. Meditation practice can be performed even in the most public of places. If you are stuck in a long line at the grocery store, for example, rather than rant about the time wasted till your turn comes, gently let go of the annoyance. Let your mind become still and just form a center of calmness around you. It will take practice to be able to block out the confused and often irritated emotions of those around you but ultimately, not only will you feel calmer, the peaceful aura you exude may leech out to those around you an calm them as well. Performed regularly, your meditation exercises will become easier. As time goes by, you may be amazed at the subtle and quite information that drops itself into your awareness as your inherent psychic abilities find a stronger path to travel. While there are other ways to boost your psychic abilities, learning to practice the meditation routine is a good stepping-stone to a stronger and more developed entity.
